Aswaaq to open community center at Umm Suqeim

Dubai, September 14, 2009

Aswaaq, a Dubai government-owned company, is set to open its third community center, which will include a supermarket, retail stores and offices, at Umm Suqeim on Tuesday.

In line with the company’s vision, the new community center aims to enhance the local community spirit by providing excellent shopping facilities and offering an array of services for local residents at competitive prices, said a company official.

The community center is built on 56,000 sq ft of land and consists of retail shops and a 25,000 sq ft supermarket, offering the same services and selection as aswaaq’s additional two community centers - Nad Al Hamar and Mizhar.

"This includes a bakery, butcher, fishmonger and fruit and vegetable sections. Home delivery services will also be available, and shoppers can take advantage of WAFA loyalty points, discount coupons and other promotions."

Commenting on the opening, Abdul Basset Al Janahi, CEO of aswaaq, said: “We are pleased to announce the opening of our fourth aswaaq branch in Umm Suqeim.  The new center will provide ample job opportunities for locals as well as help bring people from the community together. By creating a close knit community feeling, we hope to build upon the success of our previous centers.”

The new community center also includes French Bakery; a brand that will open in aswaaq’s future centers.

The village-themed café and bakery will offer gourmet European and French baked-goods in addition to serving light meals and an outstanding selection of beverages. It is French Bakery’s fourth location in Dubai and will be open 24 hours a day.
