ABU DHABI, March 2, 2015

Experts and field leaders will present visions, experiences and analysis of technological handling of crisis and disasters on risk of fires and their resulting life and property losses at an event in Abu Dhabi, UAE today (March 2).

The fifth Annual Fire Safety Technology Forum, organised by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and represented by the General Directorate of Civil Defense, is taking place at the Etihad Towers. It is being held on the occasion of the celebrations for the World Civil Defence Day, which marks the first of March every year.

Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Civil Defence acting general commander-in-chief, noted that the strategy of the Directorate General of Civil Defense in the UAE focuses on the use of advanced technology in the provision of smart Civil Defense services in the field of awareness, prevention and protection.

The forum this year will tackle issues pertaining to ‘Civil Protection and Disaster Reduction within Sustainable Development’, the theme of the World Civil Defence Day celebrations, he said.

It will also be attended by heads of Civil Defense departments in the country, a large number of civil defence officers across all emirates of the country, and representatives from manufacturing, installation, and maintenance companies specialised in civil defence equipment.

The forum will discuss various topics including the risks and methods of ensuring readiness in emergency situations; the role of first responders and the participating entities in responding to major incidents; the analysis of chemical accidents that have recently occurred in the US, the Netherlands, Britain, and Venezuela; emergency planning in populated areas; and maritime safety and incidents involving ships. - TradeArabia News Service
