Greater co-operation among GCC states in the face of rising regional challenges was the focus of high-level talks between Bahrain and Kuwait last night (July 2).

 

"The GCC states are surrounded by a turbulent and unstable region and we need to work together to confront these challenges," His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa said as he was received by Kuwaiti Amir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, Crown Prince Shaikh Nawaf Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah and Prime Minister Shaikh Jaber Al Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah.

 

The two leaders stressed the importance of stepping up co-operation to foil all attempts to destabilise the region and subvert its security, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

 

They called for measures to protect the member states and steer them away from any involvement in destructive conflicts and wars.

 

They also reviewed current international developments and their impact on the region, calling for more co-ordination.

 

The Premier commended Kuwait's pivotal role in supporting Bahrain's development momentum, which reflects deep-rooted ties.

 

The Premier greeted the Kuwaiti Amir on the advent of Ramadan and extended greetings from His Majesty King Hamad, the government and the people of Bahrain.

 

The Kuwaiti Amir hosted an Iftar banquet in honour of the Premier and his delegation, in the presence of the Kuwaiti Crown Prince, the Premier and other senior officials.

 

The Premier, who arrived in Kuwait earlier for a visit, was received at the airport by the Kuwaiti prime minister, deputy premiers, senior officials and Bahrain's ambassador to the country. The Premier returned to Bahrain later last night. - TradeArabia News Service
