Yota Devices, Al Jazeera to provide news to ME users

DUBAI, December 24, 2014

Yota Devices, the maker of YotaPhone 2 - a first ‘two-fronts’ smartphone, has collaborated with Al Jazeera Network to bring the latest headline news straight to its second generation devices.

As the company’s newest partner in the Middle East, YotaPhone 2 will have an Al Jazeera news app, said a statement.

All headline news will be available in both English Arabic and users across the region will also receive international news updates through the network’s RSS feed, it said.

Vlad Martynov, chief executive officer, Yota Devices, said: “One of the key features of YotaPhone 2 is the ‘always-on’ electronics paper display (EPD), which is ideal for electronic reading.

“Customers today not only want to be connected online anytime and anywhere, but they also want to be informed of the latest happening around the world.”

“Our partnership with Al Jazeera allows us to keep our customers satisfied with regional and international news via the network’s RSS feed. This special collaboration will be on our mobile news apps development that will utilise YotaPhone’s EPD screen,” Martynov added.

Abdulla Al Najjar, executive director, Marketing and Distribution, Al Jazeera Media Network, said: “Al Jazeera is constantly looking at ways to provide news and programmes on various digital platforms as more and more people consume content on their mobile devices.

“This distribution deal with YotaPhone will amplify our compelling English and Arabic news content via RSS on yet another platform which will be readily available to users across the Mena region”.

The Android smartphone, YotaPhone 2 has a liquid crystal display on one front while uses the EPD technology to allow users to read content-rich news and books along with personalising notifications settings, linking social media accounts, and displaying black and white photos.

Abdul Karim Sawan, vice president of Middle East and Africa, Yota Devices, said: “Focusing on more accessible and revolutionary technologies that aim to gain bigger footprint in the region, we at Yota will continue to offer our customers with impressive offerings. Partnering with Al Jazeera allows us to serve quality and professional services to our customers in the region.”

With YotaPhone 2, users are provided with key benefits, which include improved battery life using the EPD screen that offers up-to five days of e-book reading from a single charge, said the statement.

It will also last up to three times longer based on usage that involves reading, messaging and calling, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
