Minister reviews progress of work at Sohar terminal

MUSCAT, August 30, 2017

A senior Oman ministry official recently visited Sohar Port and reviewed the work under way at the container terminal managed by Oman International Container Terminal Company and the general cargo terminal managed by C Steinweg Oman, said a report.

Minister of Transport and Communications Dr Ahmed al Futaisi said that the introduction of high technology in the container terminal will facilitate operations in a way that satisfies all the stakeholders, reported Oman Daily Observer.

Plans are on to expand the capacity of the bulk material handling terminal to 10 million tonnes, he said.

Al Futaisi said these projects are important as they have the potential to turn Oman into a regional hub for logistics services and investment.

He added that work is under way to integrate logistics services and facilities with participation from both private and public sectors, which will improve the Sultanate’s competitiveness ranking.

Al Futaisi further noted that Sohar Port has played a key role in recent years by keeping pace with modern developments in the logistics services sector.

He also affirmed that the ministry is complementing the linkage of logistic services and facilities as well as joining the efforts of the public and private sectors to boost the competitiveness of the port.
