Gulf Navigation Maritime, MtS collaborate to support sailors

DUBAI, September 29, 2015

Dubai-based Gulf Navigation Maritime, a leading maritime and shipping company, has collaborated with ‘The Mission to Seafarers’ (MtS) to support the cause of sailors.

The MtS Group is a voluntary funded organisation established in 1865, whose UAE branch owns Flying Angel, a dedicated vessel for the Port of Fujairah.

It provides a ‘home away from home’ for thousands of seafarers who spend a major portion of their lives at sea. The MtS Group has served millions of seafarers at around 260 ports across the world, said a statement.

As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), Gulf Navigation Maritime through its branch in the Port of Fujairah, provides technical, operational and crew management for the Flying Angel, it said.

The company is committed to extending top-quality maritime services to help the seafaring community which is an integral component of the maritime industry. The world’s first purpose-built seafarers support vessel, the Flying Angel, welcomes over 25,000 seafarers a year on board, it added.

It goes out to the Fujairah Anchorage every day during daylight hours to offer seafarers entertainment, leisure and medical facilities through its functional duty free shop and medical centre, exhaustive free-of-cost library, advocacy and counselling services, and telephone and internet facilities.

Being in the maritime industry, Gulf Navigation Maritime understands the challenges of continuously being at sea for long periods. The Flying Angel is an effort to support The Mission to Seafarers’ advocacy of breaking the long-drawn monotony of sailors, said the statement.

The company has collaborated with the MtS Group in their cause by extending technical, operational and crew management support for its Flying Angel. It is a matter of pride for Gulf Navigation Maritime in assisting seafarers who have been out in the middle of the ocean for an extended duration to relax, rejuvenate and rewind before they embark on another long journey, it said.

Gulf Navigation Maritime’s various maritime services include cargo ship handling, project cargo handling, logistics warehousing and inland transportation, and husbandry services in all UAE Ports along with a dedicated dry dock, repairs and ship supplies division, it added. – TradeArabia News Service
