Milaha takes delivery of dive support vessel

Doha, June 1, 2014

Qatar Navigation (Milaha), a leader in marine transportation and offshore support, said it has taken the delivery of its hitech dive support vessel 'Shaddad' for one of its units.

"Shaddad" was designed and built to the latest specifications and requirements of oil and gas majors.

Built in India by ABG Shipyard, the dynamic positioning (DP2-enabled) vessel is equipped with the latest diving equipment that qualifies the vessel to undertake subsea maintenance with saturated diving capability up to 300 meters depth, as well as air diving and Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) operations.

The vessel has been contracted by Halul Offshore Services Company to Qatar Petroleum as part of a 5-year diving services agreement.

“Shaddad” was unveiled at Doha Port last week in the presence of the top management from Qatar Petroleum, Milaha and other companies from Qatar’s offshore maritime sector.

In addition, “Shaddad” is capable of supporting routine offshore supply activities, such as transportation of fresh water, diesel oil, stores, material and equipment, as well as carrying out external firefighting duties.

Milaha chairman and managing director Sheikh Ali bin Jassim Al Thani, said: “This is a special occasion for Milaha and Halul Offshore. The newest, state-of-the-art addition to our expanding fleet is a reflection of our commitment to strengthen our services and capabilities in support of Qatar’s oil and gas sector, and the country’s vision and economy as a whole."

"We wish her and her crew safe and productive operations," he added.

With the delivery of “Shaddad”, Halul’s diverse fleet of offshore support vessels increased to 36, with 7 further vessels scheduled for delivery over the course of 2014.

The fleet supports the entire lifecycle of the oil and gas sector, and includes construction vessels (CSVs), anchor handlers (AHT), anchor handling tug supply (AHTS), platform supply vessels (PSV), DSVs and safety standby vessels (SSV), among others.-TradeArabia News Service
