First assistive technology expo on way in Dubai

DUBAI, August 10, 2015

How assistive technology can improve functional capabilities of individuals with special needs and empower them to reach their highest potential will be highlighted at an inaugural upcoming event in Dubai, UAE.

The first ever Al Noor Assistive Tech-X 2015, running on November 12 and 13 at Anisa- Al Noor Indoor Sports Auditorium, will feature cutting-edge products and services, demonstrations, workshops, seminars and fun activities.

Organised by Al Noor Training Centre, the exhibition will bring together children and individuals with special needs, parents, community, AT manufacturers and suppliers, therapists & specialist speakers in the field to create awareness towards the use of AT as a means to increase the productivity of people with disabilities.

The quality of assistive technology has expanded and improved by quantum leaps over the past few years as traditional assistive technologies have converged with consumer technologies. Assistive technology available to students with disabilities is no longer big and complicated devices.

Students now have access to assistive technologies that are smaller, smarter and more ¬integrated. Students with disabilities can use tools which recognize speech to execute an action, e-books to eliminate page turning and ¬portable eye-gaze devices that are powered by blinks.

Al Noor Assistive Tech-X 2015 is the perfect place to witness such phenomenal technologies which help individuals with special needs to achieve their highest potential and to integrate themselves into mainstream activities. The event gives everyone an opportunity to enhance his/her knowledge on assistive technology and also experience its functionalities through live demonstrations.

Today Al Noor boasts of having its very own full-fledged Assistive Technology Department which strives to deliver AT services in a structured, well-directed and holistic manner to address the short-term and long-term needs of all the students by staff specialized in Assistive Technology Training.

The Centre has been implementing various aspects of Assistive Technology – both – products and services – for its students through the delivery of Augmentative and Alternative Communication services, Seating Clinic, use of Adaptations for Self-Care, Literacy, etc., as well as training in the use of mobility solutions.

Eminent assistive technology specialists from around the GCC are expected to attend the event and conduct interactive seminars to share their in-depth knowledge on the subject.

This biennial expo aims to become the leading event for raising awareness on Assistive Technology and empowering the special needs community in the region.

Isphana Al Khatib, director, Al Noor Training Centre, said: “We are looking to create a well-structured and organized opportunity through this event for all the stakeholders- our children & their families, professionals in the field, manufacturers & suppliers of AT equipment and most significantly the community at large; to be appropriately aware, connected, informed and educated about the manifold benefits and advantages of Assistive Technology.”

Al Noor Training Centre is inviting corporates to come on board as a sponsor or exhibitor to support this event which will provide a one stop solution to latest developments in assistive technologies for people with disabilities & create awareness amongst the community.
