Thyssenkrupp delivers 57 escalators to Cairo metro

DUBAI, November 26, 2019

Germany-based Thyssenkrupp Elevator delivered state-of-the-art 57 escalators to four new metro stations in Cairo and will install 12 more.

Thyssenkrupp has provided the Egyptian capital’s subway system with 69 escalators as well as servicing and maintaining 432 elevators and escalators.

In Haroun el Rashied Station, Alf Masken Station, and El Shams Club Station, thyssenkrupp Elevator has installed over 40 escalators. At Heliopolis Square Station, which is also new, thyssenkrupp has installed 17 escalators while at new El Nozha Station, a deal for a further 12 escalator units has just been closed.

The metro of Cairo was opened in 1987. In 2009/2010, about 805 million passengers used it. Until 2020 the number will raise to approximately 2.2 billion. To cope with the demand for seamless inner-city transport, Cairo metro continuously expands.

Elsewhere in the Middle East region, thyssenkrupp has recently supplied more than 1,200 elevators, escalators and moving walks to the upcoming metro stations in Riyadh and Doha and is also currently servicing almost 800 units for the Dubai metro. – TradeArabia News Service
