Deira Islands masterplan.

Nakheel to tender $1.1bn Deira mall soon: report

DUBAI, August 30, 2016

Nakheel, Dubai's leading master-developer, is working on the final details of a Dh4-billion ($1.1 billion) mega destination mall on Deira Islands in Dubai, UAE, a report said.

The project should be put out to tender shortly, the Gulf News report said.

The project will be one of the most-coveted contracts in Dubai’s construction sector, alongside that for The Tower, Emaar’s tallest structure in the world and located at Dubai Creek Harbour.

The mall will spread over 600,000 sq m and be the focal point of the wider destination and tourist hub Deira Islands intends to become, the report said.

The Deira Islands Mall contract should come to Dh4 billion ($1.1 billion) or even more, said Ali Rashid Lootah, chairman of Nakheel, said in the report. “I’m hopeful we will be in a position to finalise it soon."

Now that the initial works on shaping the Deira Islands are well advanced, setting up construction teams to handle the mall component should be relatively easy, he said.
