Huawei, Dubai South in smart city collaboration

DUBAI, July 12, 2016

Huawei, a leading global ICT solutions provider, has signed an agreement with Dubai South to bring future-city capabilities and services to Dubai South’s Business Park Free Zone.

Located at the gateway of Dubai South and comprising 11 modern buildings, the Business Park offers commercial space to support diverse sectors including aviation, logistics, general trading, finance, business consultancies, training institutions, retail, fitness and food and beverage (F&B).

“The MoU (memorandum of understanding) between Dubai South and Huawei will see the deployment of Huawei’s Smart City and Safe City Solutions to provide enhanced services to residents and businesses in the Park,” said Colin Hu, the managing director of Huawei Enterprise, UAE.

“Huawei will provide strategic counsel to support the development of a blueprint for Dubai South’s smart initiatives. Huawei will also share its global expertise through training sessions, expert workshops and guided visits to other key customer sites where Huawei Smart City solutions have been implemented,” stated Hu.

According to him, Huawei Smart City and Safe City Solutions deliver expertise in end-to-end network planning and the development of cutting-edge technologies by bringing together an open ecosystem of partners.

In addition, Huawei’s capabilities include mobile and fixed broadband infrastructure, while its Internet of Things (IoT) platform allows rapid connectivity, security and ID management for large-scale deployment of smart city sensors and devices, said Hu.

The IoT platform also provides service orchestration to allow for rapid deployment of new cross-silo services with converged data from various vertical industry sensors.

“In-line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to transform Dubai into one of the world’s smartest cities, our partnership with Huawei is an important step forward in establishing Dubai South as a city that serves its inhabitants and facilitates business and trade through smart solutions,” remarked Khalifa Al Zaffin, the executive chairman, Dubai Aviation City Corporation.

“We value Huawei’s global ICT expertise and success in building smart cities of the future, to provide advanced, smart and sustainable services to the larger community at Dubai South, making the city the preferred destination to live, work and invest,” he added.

Huawei Smart City and Safe City Solutions are built on the components that make up its cloud-pipe-device strategy towards building a better connected world. These new ICT solutions are based on leveraging Cloud Computing, Big Data, IoT, 5G and SDN.

It currently protects over 400 million people in more than 100 cities across 30 countries. New ICT innovation, such as IoT, mobile broadband, video cloud, and big data, are developing rapidly, and are widely used in areas including integrated monitoring, warning plans, emergency communications, and decision making support, said Hu.

Using new ICT, governments can enable a properly connected safe city where visualisation and collaboration are embedded into the city’s infrastructure to maximise public safety. This enables the safe city to become a critical component in smart city development, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
