India's Blue Star buys into Omani engineering firm

India's leading engineering conglomerate, Blue Star Limited, has acquired a 51 per cent stake in Oman Electro Mechanical Contracting Company (OEMC) as part of its regional expansion strategy.

The joint venture with OEMC, a 100 per cent subsidiary of WJ Towell & Company, a renowned business group with diversified interests in Oman, will help the Indian group boost its MEP international footprint.
 
The new company, Blue Star Oman will offer mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contracting services across the sultanate.

Over the next couple of years, Blue Star Oman aims to acquire more than 10 per cent of the $350 million Oman MEP market. The new firm also plans to expand into the after-sales service business in the country.

A major player in the country, WJ Towell & Co has several businesses such as real estate, construction, consumer goods, automotive, engineering and services. It also represents numerous reputed multinational brands in Oman including Nestle, Unilever, British American Tobacco, Reckitt Benckiser, Mazda and Bridgestone.

Blue Star is India's leading engineering conglomerate with core businesses of airconditioning, commercial refrigeration, MEP contracting and after-sales service. It has a network of 32 offices in India and a major presence in 15 countries.

Blue Star's international business is currently engaged in the export of airconditioning and refrigeration products to the Middle East, Africa and SAARC regions, and is also making steady progress in the developing African market.

The company also runs an international projects business through its joint ventures in Qatar and Malaysia focusing on HVAC&R and MEP projects for residential, commercial and industrial segments.
