Qatar's state utility Q1 profit rises 15.7pc

Qatar Electricity and Water Company (QEWC), the country's monopoly utility, reported a 15.7 per cent rise in first-quarter net profit on Wednesday.

The state-run firm made a profit of QR346 million ($95.06 million) in the three months to March 31, up from QR299 million ($82.13 million) in the prior-year period, according to a statement to Doha's bourse.

QEWC did not state its quarterly revenue or provide other financial details.

Two analysts polled by Reuters forecast QEWC would make a quarterly profit of QR303.8 million ($83.46 million) and QR308.8 million ($84.83 million) respectively.-Reuters
