Dubai gears up for Box Park launch

DUBAI, January 19, 2015

Work on the new tourist and commercial Box Park project, being built with unconventional construction materials in Dubai, UAE, is nearing completion and will be ready by the end of this month, said a report.

UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum toured the  facility across a 1,200-m-long stretch along Al Wasl Road in Jumeirah.

The new tourist and commercial project boasts a unique architecture as it uses unconventional building materials such as industrial containers, concrete and steel, to add a touch of modernity, reported the Emirati news agency Wam.

It has been built on the lines of the 'pop-up' structures set in other cities such as New York (US), London (UK), Paris (France) and Christchurch (New Zealand), it added.

While these cities have a temporary ‘pop-up’ structure, the Dubai's 8x8 structure will be a permanent destination where residents and tourists can spend a memorable and fun-filled day out, said the report.

A spatial experience that is inviting, comfortable, engaging and memorable, this self-contained destination will be a place to shop, dine, relax and soak up the outdoor ambiance, it added.

During his tour, Sheikh Mohammed was briefed by the officials on the design of the project's shops and yards and the unique building materials used in the project.

Lauding the officials for the success, Sheikh Mohammed said: "Box Park will be a revolutionary lifestyle destination where urban chic meets contemporary sophistication. Providing a refreshing alternative to sprawling, insular malls, the concept will feature an eclectic mix of restaurants, cafes and high-end fashion outlets, intermingled with open spaces and amenities."
