MAF to invest in Egypt road infrastructure

Cairo, March 18, 2014

Majid Al Futtaim, the leading shopping mall, retail and leisure pioneer across the Mena region, is set to invest EGP10 million ($1.42 million) for improvement of road infrastructure near Maadi City Centre.

Located on the Katameya highway, Maadi City Centre is home to 86 of the best local and international retailers and restaurants that are spread over 65,000 sq m as well as a comprehensive Carrefour hypermarket.

As part of their ongoing commitment to the local community in which they work and serve, Maadi City Centre announced the start of the project it is undertaking to renovate the road surrounding the mall.

The completion of the road works is expected to significantly alleviate traffic congestion in one of Maadi's busiest areas.

The project, which focuses specifically on improving the infrastructure of the surrounding streets, is undertaken in collaboration with the local authorities, who are providing significant support to ensure its completion.

The road works project focuses on the streets that connect the Ring Road to the mall. Major improvements were made on Zahraa Road including the construction of a new roundabout, adding beautiful landscaping and offering a U-turn facility for motorists wishing to reverse direction along the Ring Road, said the UAE retailer.

Improvements also include better access to Maadi City Centre's upper deck parking lot.

In addition to improving road infrastructure to better the traffic flow for around 1.4 million residents in the adjacent areas, the completion of the road works project is also expected to have a positive effect on incoming traffic to Maadi City Centre, which welcomes approximately 30,000 visitors daily, it added.

"Our decision to work on developing the infrastructure of the surrounding area comes as part of Majid Al Futtaim Properties’ overall philosophy to support the growth and improvement of the communities where we operate,” remarked Abdulla El Nockrashy, MAF Properties country manager for Egypt.

“These road renovation works will ensure a better driving experience for those living in Maadi as well as visitors to Maadi City Centre. The Maadi community is extremely important to us, and as concerned corporate citizens we believe we have a duty to support local development whenever possible,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
