Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has inked a Dh19.5 million  ($5.3 milion) contract for a new 132 kV power cable network for the Gardens and Dubai Investment Park area as part of its strategic plan to further boost its electricity infrastructure.

The major project aims at enhancing capacity and efficiency to highest international standards and is expected to be completed in February next year, said top official.

“Led by our vision to become a sustainable world-class utility, Dewa contributes effectively to the social, economic and environmental development of the emirate, by providing uninterrupted and stable electricity and water services to achieve the vision of Dubai,” remarked its managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.

According to him, the new cable network further strengthens its infrastructure and enables Dewa to provide swift and efficient power supply to the customers.

The length of the new cables network is up to 26 km, and covers a wide area in Jebel Ali, with the scope of work covering the supply and drilling of extensions, testing, commissioning, and managing links with existing networks, said Al Tayer.

"Reliability in all areas of its network was the primary concern, as it contributes to further establishing Dubai as a global hub for trade, finance and tourism, and securing the supply of reliable energy for various uses," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
