Amana Contracting and Steel Buildings, a leading company in fast track and turnkey construction in the Middle East, has been awarded a Dh85 million ($23 million) contract by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc), for the construction of Takreer Research Center.

The research centre is part of the Petroleum Institute Campus, being developed by Adnoc at Sas El Nakhl in Abu Dhabi.

The contract encompasses construction of a three-storey research center building, comprising laboratories, workshops, pilot plant, gas bunker and offices in addition to all related MEP services and infrastructure. The project is scheduled for completion in June 2009.

Once complete, the research center will enhance Adnoc’s performance in various operations including refining of crude oil, supply of petroleum products and production of granulated sulphur in compliance with domestic and international specifications.

Through this center, Takreer will also provide a boost to employment opportunities for UAE national workforce by equipping them with the requisite skills, said Bahaa Harb, general manager at Amana Abu Dhabi.

“It is a matter of privilege for us to be selected for the implementation of this prestigious Takreer Research Center project. Our selection has been done on the basis of Amana’s successful track record with Adnoc, our competitive pricing and our ability to provide fast execution coupled with professional and high quality performance.”

He pointed out that Amana had executed similar successful projects for Adnoc in the last four years, including the 12,500 sq m Petroleum Institute Support Facilities, the 28,000 sq m Female Educational Facility, the 12,000 sq m Technical Institute in Al Shamkha and the 21,000 sq m boys and girls high schools.

"Like all previous projects, we wish to complete this project within the stipulated budget and timeframe. The most important aspect is to guarantee Adnoc that our construction will meet the highest standards of safety and quality and maintain the end-users’ operational and technical requirements,” he added.

In his comments, Awaidha Murshed A. Al Murar, civil projects division manager at Adnoc, said: “We have been entrusted by Takreer to manage the turnkey execution of this project to the highest quality and safety standards. Adnoc is proud to be associated again with Amana on this project where we have already witnessed their successful work in our earlier projects."

He said Amana’s competitive offer coupled with a commitment to high quality standards and delivery resulted in its decision to award them this contract.-TradeArabia News Service
