Coffee exports to Arab region hits $134m

DUBAI, September 28, 2015

Brazil's coffee exports to the Arab world increased to $134.5 in the period between January and August this year, according to statistics released by the Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council (Cecafé).

The substantial numbers represented a 4.67 per cent increase compared to exports from the previous year, highlighting the rapidly expanding trade relations between the two regions, said a statement.

The positive trend has impacted many facets of Arab-Brazilian trade relations, it said.

The total exports from Brazil reached $4.08 billion so far, up one per cent over the first eight months of last year.

The numbers have showed no sign of slowing down, with August recording export revenues at $451.7 million. Overall, 23.4 million bags of coffee have been shipped abroad.

Dr Michel Alaby, secretary general and chief executive officer, Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, said: “The increasing number of exports between Brazil and the Arab World is a strong indicator of the dynamic and rapidly evolving trade relations between the two parties.

"The growing revenues are largely due to the popularity of Brazilian coffee among people in the Gulf, which has encouraged Brazil to better address the rising demand. We remain committed to cultivating and strengthening the communication channels between Brazil and the Arab World.” - TradeArabia News Service
