Korea Western Power lands $460m Oman solar plant order

Leading South Korean group Korea Western Power has secured a major contract from Oman Power & Water Procurement Company (OPWP) to build a 500MW solar power plant in the city of Mana at Dakhiliya, 170 km southwest of capital Muscat.

The project was awarded by OPWP in two separate orders in 2019 - Manah 1 (500MW) and Manah 2 (500MW). Once completed, it will be the largest solar power plant in Oman, reported Business Korea.

The Korean group had announced that it had been selected as the preferred bidder for the 500 MW Manah 1 solar project being set up at an investment of about 600 billion won ($460 million).

Work on the project is set to begin in the second half of this year and is likely to be completed in March 2025, stated the report.

As per the deal, Korean Western Power will provide operation and maintenance services for the plant on completion. OPWP will be purchasing power from the Manah plant for the next 20 years, it added.
