DHL unveils big Iraq expansion plans

Manama, May 21, 2012

DHL, the global market leader in the logistics industry, has officially extended its supplementary day definite road service into Iraq thus linking the GCC and the Levant regions to the country.

This (DHL ECONOMY SELECT) service will complement the existing airfreight program, the DHL time definite services, and will serve countries across the GCC and Levant with a slower transit time offering.

“No one knows the Middle East like DHL, and as we continue to expand our network and services , we continue to provide our customers with more cost-effective options. The new Road Service will provide unprecedented logistical solutions into Iraq,” remarked Nour Suliman, the CEO of DHL Express Mena.

The new service has been successfully tested earlier this year and will now link the GCC and Levant regions to Iraq, for the very first time, with an integrated road and air network.

DHL was the first logistics company to establish operations in Iraq in 2003 and since then, has expanded across the country with 18 service Points and three main gateways in Iraq’s key cities; Erbil, Baghdad and Basra.

DHL Express Iraq currently operates 117 vehicles that handle on average 16,000 shipments per day, and is considered the number one specialist for logistics in the Oil and Gas industry, providing a daily door-to-door service to most oil and gas fields in Basrah.

“The new service will eliminate weight and size restrictions into Iraq and provide an economically attractive solution to customers who ship less urgent and heavier weight consignments,” Suliman added.-TradeArabia News Service
