SSAB and Framery to use fossil-free steel for office pods

SSAB and Framery have announced a collaboration to integrate fossil-free steel into the production of office pods, marking a significant milestone in sustainability within the workspace sector.

Framery's commitment to sustainability continued this year by switching from plywood to steel, which helped them to achieve a 23% material reduction in their new smart pods range and, on average, a 16% decrease in the related carbon footprint from manufacturing.

Framery's ambitious sustainability goals take their next giant leap with SSAB's fossil-free steel offering from 2026 onward. Framery's goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% per pod by 2028 compared to the 2023 level, while increasing the number of deliveries.

A necessity
"We see this collaboration not as a choice but a necessity. From 2026, as soon as the material becomes available, we will start bringing fossil free steel pods to offices worldwide," says Framery CEO Samu Hällfors.

"We are excited to collaborate with Framery to drive sustainability in the workplace," says Lotta Ruottinen, Sales Director at SSAB Europe. "Fossil-free steel presents a compelling opportunity to reduce carbon emissions and minimise environmental impact. Together with Framery, we are shaping a more sustainable future for the workplace."

SSAB and Framery share similar ambitions to re-think their current way of making their products. SSAB is revolutionising steelmaking with virtually zero fossil carbon emissions, paving the way for a greener future, while Framery, born from a necessity to re-think the office, continues to shape the world of work with innovative technology and inspired engineering. Their cooperation will help both companies to shape the future.--TradeArabia News Service
