SSAB has signed an agreement with Meka Pro Oy to supply Meka from 2026 small batches of steel produced virtually without carbon dioxide emissions.
The volumes will increase annually as SSAB’s fossil-free production capacity grows. By using fossil-free steel, Meka Pro Oy will be able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in these products by up to 95%. Fossil-free steel supports Meka’s significant investment in the Solar product family, which includes onshore installation systems for solar power plants.
Meka products are carefully designed and manufactured with high quality and have a long service life. The products are designed to be modular, which facilitates the construction of versatile cable management systems.
Fossil-free raw materials
The carbon footprint of all Meka’s products has been calculated since 2022, and they have associated EPDs. In the future, the long-life cycle and high-quality manufacturing of products will be further strengthened by the use of fossil-free raw materials.
“Fossil-free steel makes it possible to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of Meka’s products. We definitely want to offer this to our customers as quickly as possible,” says Oskari Ylimaula, Production, Logistics and Sustainability Director at Meka Pro Oy.
“At SSAB, we are happy to work with new partners. A common goal towards a fossil-free future gives us all the incentive to develop a more sustainable value chain together,” says Lotta Ruottinen, Sales Director SSAB Europe.
