Dr Jawahery with the IFA board

IFA names new Arab Board members

The International Fertiliser Industry Association (IFA) has named new members to its Board of Directors during a meeting held on the sidelines of the IFA’s Strategic Forum in Dubai.
 
Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) president and chairman of IFA, Dr Abdulrahman Jawahery chaired the meeting that studied the market situation in terms of the balance of supply and demand, emerging market trends, rationalisation of energy, promoting health and safety and environmental conservation.
 
The meeting also discussed the good performance of food systems and global sustainable agriculture that helps understand resources and ecosystem services, along with the need to build capacity to adapt to these systems.
 
Chairman of Jordan's Arab Potash Company Jamal Ahmed Sarayreh and chief executive officer and Khaled bin Saleh Al-Mudaifer has been the chief executive officer and president at Saudi Arabian Mining Company were unanimously elected new Board Members, bringing to five their total number.
 
Dr Jawahery praised the holding of such forums and conferences, saying these would allow members the opportunity to meet to exchange experiences and information as well as to strengthen bonds with other relevant bodies. He said the GPCA had provided a comprehensive database for researchers and workers in the field of fertilisers and access information they need and follow-up reports and statistics related to the industry.
 
He spoke about the growing importance of the global fertiliser industry, which was working to provide food to the world’s population.
 
 
Dr Jawahery is the first Arab who is the Chairman of both the IFA and the Arab Fertiliser Association (AFA) as well as the GPIC, which is one of the world’s most advanced and modern fertiliser plants. Its products are characterised with their high quality and exported to the world's largest markets. Dr. Jawahery also holds top positions in many local, regional and global organisations.
 
The Paris, France-headquartered IFA is one of the world’s largest such unions and has as its members manufacturers and technology providers for the manufacture of industrial nitrogen and phosphate fertilisers. Manufacturers from the Arab world, including the GCC, Egypt, Libya, Syria and Jordan have a good presence in the IFA.
 
The IFA hosts regular meetings and seminars, hosts meetings of union members and organises field trips to various destinations in order to help manufacturing technology transfer.
 
The IFA has a membership of more than 540 fertiliser producers and its board members belong to various countries.
