GPIC president Dr Abdulrahman Jawahery briefing the US Ambassador to Bahrain William Roebuck

US envoy visits GPIC

MANAMA, January 11, 2016

The Ambassador of the US to Bahrain William Roebuck visited the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) complex to take a look at the company’s state-of-the art infrastructure.

GPIC president Dr Abdulrahman Jawahery received the ambassador and his delegation along with members of the company’s executive management, Labour Union chairman and other officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jawahery said the company is very keen to strengthen co-operation with the US to take advantage of its expertise in the petrochemical industry and get to know the modern techniques it is applying in the manufacturing process.

He praised the role of the company’s Labour Union in making GPIC a successful industrial enterprise and working hand in hand with its management.

He explained to the Ambassador and his delegation that the company desires close ties with all foreign companies to benefit from the global experience and expertise. He said there were historical close relations between Bahrain and the US and several US companies were part of that relationship.

He spoke about the close GPIC ties with the US National Safety Council, on which he had recently been elected as its first non-American Board member. He said the company had benefited greatly from its partnership with the Council to excel globally and stressed that his presence on the board would increase and strengthen that relationship.

Roebuck heard a detailed explanation on the GPIC’s operations production process, which included a review of the most important achievements of the company in safety, quality and environmental preservation areas. He was briefed on some of the important environmental projects, which characterised GPIC’s operations, including the state-of-the-art Carbon Dioxide Recovery Plant, which contributes significantly to the reduction of harmful emissions produced by factory operations.

The Ambassador saw the training activities of the Academy of Learning and Leadership and the eLearning Centre and went on a tour around the complex, visiting the several environmental projects that reflect the harmony between the industry and the environment.

The guests went to the HRH Princess Sabeeka Aromatic Plants Garden, the Medicinal Herbs Garden, the Charity Fish Farm and the Bird Sanctuary. Roebuck also planted a tree to mark his visit, as contribution to support the GPIC’s environmental orientation.

The Ambassador said he was very pleased and impressed with the GPIC and said it was a great example of successful GCC cooperation. He described the visit as a good opportunity to look closely at a successful industrial company that safeguards the environment and stands out as a model for Bahraini companies.

The visitors thanked Dr Jawahery and the management for the welcome and the hospitality and said company employees had shown commitment and dedication for it to have made so much progress and gain international recognition.
