Special stamp to mark Opec 50th anniversary

Abu Dhabi, February 16, 2011

Emirates Post has issued a special commemorative stamp on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec).

The stamp was issued in recognition of Opec’s significant impact on its members and the world community during the past 50 years, said a statement from Emirates Post.

The stamp features the slogan 'Supporting Stability, Fuelling Prosperity' which summarizes the two pillars of Opec´s philosophy and operations.

The organisation has served as a bridge between producers and consumers, creating a forum for discussion on issues like fuel supplies in the long run as well as technology, trade and environment conservation, it added.

An ornamental frame containing the stamp was presented to Ali Obaid Al-Yabhouni, the UAE governor for Opec, by Ibrahim Ali bin Karam, chief commercial officer of Emirates Post Group and Abdullah Al Ashram, CEO of Emirates Post, on the sidelines of the ‘OPEC50: UAE Energy Forum’, held at the Higher Colleges of Technology, CERT Technology Park, in Abu Dhabi.

“For the last 50 years, the UAE and Opec have worked hand-in-hand to ensure oil market stability,” Al-Yabhouni said.

“This stamp reflects a partnership that has fuelled the prosperity and has contributed to the development of the UAE,” he added.

Opec’s work over the past 50 years has had a lasting impact on its members and the global community. It has created a bridge between producers and consumers, enabling discussions on key issues, such as long term energy supplies, technology, trade and protection of environment, said bin Karam.

“It has been playing a pivotal role in bringing together different oil producing countries for half a century, with a high degree of success,” he noted.

“We are delighted to celebrate the achievements of Opec through this stamp and take its message to all corners of the globe,” he added.

Since joining the organization, the UAE has played an active role in Opec. A total of 25 Ministerial Conferences have been held under the presidency of the UAE. Furthermore, the UAE has provided two secretary-generals during the organization's history.-TradeArabia News Service
