Chevrolet backs ‘Buckle Up In The Back’ drive

Dubai, February 23, 2014

Chevrolet has signed a deal to support the Buckle Up In The Back initiative, which educates UAE children to wear seatbelts.

Lesley Cully, owner of Buckle Up In The Back, attends schools across the UAE, teaching children, parents and faculty members about the importance of wearing seatbelts and using booster seats, said a statement.

Over 50,000 children have participated in the initiative’s sessions, and plans are afoot to increase the number in this year, it said.

“I'm delighted to be supported by Chevrolet for a third year. It shows their commitment to the safety of children in the UAE and I'm confident it will be another successful Buckle Up year,” said Cully.

As part of the sponsorship deal, Chevrolet provides Buckle Up In The Back with a Chevrolet Traverse crossover vehicle, financial support, and Buckle Up In The Back branded giveaways for children.

Maurice Williams, General Motors Middle East president and managing director, said: “It is important for Chevrolet, as a safety conscious company, to help to spread the Buckle Up In The Back message. It’s vital that people know that under no circumstances should anyone in a moving car be unrestrained, that children under 145cm (around 10-12 years old) must be in a car or booster seat and that they should never sit in the front seat.”

“Our vehicles have the latest safety features to protect drivers and passengers, which of course includes seatbelts, but it’s vital that children and their parents know and remember to use seatbelts and booster seats correctly to reduce the risk of injury in the unfortunate event of an accident,” said Williams. - TradeArabia News Service
