His Majesy King Hamad

Bahrain King to attend Iran talks

MANAMA, April 4, 2015

Bahrain’s His Majesty King Hamad will join other GCC leaders at a Camp David summit with US President Barack Obama, a report said.

The King last night received a phone call from President Obama who extended the invitation, reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

President Obama briefed His Majesty on a framework agreement aimed at curbing Iran's nuclear drive, which was clinched on Thursday night after marathon talks in Switzerland.

His Majesty, who accepted the invitation, hoped a final nuclear deal between world powers and Iran would strengthen regional and world security.

He also thanked the US president for his efforts to secure the agreement, which marked a major breakthrough in a 12-year standoff between Iran and the West, which has long feared Tehran wants to build an atomic bomb.

President Obama said on Thursday that he planned to invite Gulf leaders to a spring summit at Camp David to discuss security co-operation in the region.

He hopes to reassure Gulf allies on the repurcussions of the Iran nuclear deal on Mideast security.

The Foreign Ministry earlier expressed its appreciation of the efforts by the world powers to reach the framework agreement.

The kingdom hopes that 'the framework will lead to a final agreement that guarantees peace and security in the region', it said.

It also expressed the hope that 'the coming period will witness a qualitative change in Iran's policy regarding non-interference in the internal affairs of countries in the region, especially the GCC countries, and commitment to co-operating positively and constructively in order to achieve security and stability in the world.' – TradeArabia News Service
