Hyundai names ME footballer brand ambassador

Muscat, March 30, 2014

Oman Trading Establishment, the official distributor for Hyundai Motor Company in Oman, has announced the signing of Ali Al Habsi, a Middle Eastern football star as an official brand ambassador for the company.

Al Habsi is the first Omani to play international football in Europe, and in particular the high profile English Premier League. As well as enjoying huge success as a goalkeeper for current English Championship club Wigan Athletic, Al Habsi is also the current captain of the Oman national football team, whom he has represented in 91 matches since 2002, including at two AFC Asian Cup tournaments.

Al Habsi said: “It is indeed a great pride to represent OTE and Hyundai - a dynamic, versatile and fast growing global auto brand. I am delighted to be associated with Hyundai as it is contributing to the development of my most passionate sport – the beautiful game of football. I am looking forward to working closely with Hyundai to bring joy to football fans in the country.”

Hyundai, in its role as official automotive partner of the 2014 Fifa World Cup Brazil, is planning a series of marketing initiatives and promotions across the Middle East, and in his role as brand ambassador, Al Habsi will play a central role in helping build a strong relationship between Hyundai and its fans in Oman.

Hyundai Motor’s partnership with Fifa began in 1999 and is currently set to run until 2022. Hyundai Motor has successfully supported major events such as the Fifa World Cup in Korea-Japan (2002), Germany (2006) and South Africa (2010), as well as other competitions including the Fifa Confederations Cup.

Tom Lee, Hyundai vice president and head of Africa & Middle East Regional Head Quarters, commented: “Football is the most popular sport in the Middle East and the 2014 Fifa World Cup will generate huge excitement throughout the whole region. Ali Al Habsi becoming the official brand ambassador for Hyundai in Oman will not only be a huge positive for the brand image but also increase brand awareness.” – TradeArabia News Service
