iGA showcases Bahrain's cloud migration experience at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, December 1, 2022

Through its Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), Bahrain has been able to migrate 70% of the operations and systems of 72 government agencies to Amazon Web Services (AWS) within three years.

The kingdom also completed the total migration of operations for 23 governmental and non-governmental entities to the cloud and helped four newly established government agencies launch their cloud-based technical infrastructure, iGA Deputy CE, Operation & Governance Dr Khalid Almutawah, told the AWS re:Invent 2022 conference, held in Las Vegas, US, from November 28 to December 2, 2022.

These measures have supported the kingdom's goals of adopting new technologies and investing in cloud computing to help develop the technology sector, and its adoption of advanced technology and systems, to help improve the quality of life of individuals and provide higher quality services.

Best practices
The Director, Government Systems Support & Maintenance, Hesham Ebrahim AlHashemi was also part of the Bahrain delegation at the event, which saw best practices and the latest cloud computing technologies discussed during more than 1,500 sessions.

The conference touched on topics such as cloud architecture, data architecture, improving infrastructure operating methods, cloud migration methods, machine learning, and more.

During his participation in a session titled The Role of AWS Cloud Computing in Accelerating the Migration of Government Systems, Dr Almutawah highlighted Bahrain’s experience with AWS cloud migration as part of the kingdom’s Cloud-First policy, which was launched in line with government's directives and support. This allowed the iGA, in partnership with other government agencies, to expand its investment in AWS’s cloud services, which have helped improve and upgrade government processes in fields such as education, health, justice, business, and public services.

Dr Almutawah stressed the impact the AWS cloud migration has had in terms of reducing spending, improving flexibility in the management of resources, ease-of-use benefits that the licenses offer, and providing cybersecurity systems that conform to international standards. He explained that government entities’ adoption of cloud computing has improved the efficiency of government spending, accelerated the pace of innovation, and enhanced cybersecurity levels.-- TradeArabia News Service
