Russia ‘keen to aid Bahrain in technical military sector’

MANAMA, June 19, 2015

Russia is ready to co-operate closely with Bahrain in the technical military field.

This was announced as Russian Ambassador Vagif Garaev praised the level of relations between the two countries, highlighting the convergence of views on most regional and international issues, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

Moscow considers Manama a strategic partner in the Gulf in particular and in the Middle East in general, he said at a ceremony on Russia Day, the national holiday of the Russian Federation.

"Russia is ready to co-operate closely with Bahrain, mainly in the technical military field that holds a special status in our future relations," he said.

Ambassador Garaev said he was grateful to His Majesty King Hamad, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, and Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa for their keen interest since his arrival in Bahrain.

He said that the official visit by His Majesty to Russia in October last year and the visit by the Crown Prince in April 2014 have given a strong impetus to enhance relations.

Talks

The ambassador referred to high-level talks between Bahrain and Russia and to agreements signed during the visits, described as successful by both countries.

The Russian diplomat said he was looking forward to significant improvement in bilateral relations following the visit by Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa, who is taking part in the St Petersburg International Economic Forum that started yesterday.

"By the end of this year, several other agreements will be signed," the diplomat said.

Ambassador Garaev said his country was pleased with the level of political talks with Bahrain, stressing that political co-operation should invariably be based on robust foundations of economic and commercial co-operation.

However, the diplomat added that he was looking forward to higher levels of trade relations, highlighting the ample opportunities. - TradeArabia News Service
