IRAN, September 15, 2015

Esfahan Steel Company (Esco), a leading manufacturer of constructional steel products in Iran, produced 2.7 million tonnes of steel in the year to March 21, said the company's CEO in a report.

Esco’s production has set a record, Ardeshir Sa'ad Mohammadi was quoted as saying in an Iran Daily report, citing Fars News Agency.

The company was established in 1971, with annual capacity of 600,000 tonnes.

In March 2015, the World Steel Association (WSA) said in a report that Iran's steel production in January and February stood at 2.775 million tonnes, a 15 per cent increase compared to the figure for the same period in 2014, said the report.

Based on the association's data, world crude steel production for the 65 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 128 million tonnes in February 2015, showing a 0.6 per cent increase compared to the amount for February 2014, it added.

An earlier WSA report showed that Iran was the biggest steel producer in the Middle East in 2014.
