Learning centre for young cancer patients

Manama, July 19, 2014

A new learning facility will be built for young cancer patients at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) in Bahrain.

It will include a classroom for children, who miss out on school while undergoing treatment, as well as a games room and parents' room, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN).

The facility has been planned and designed by the Future Society for Youth as part of its Abjad (ABCD) scheme to provide home schooling to young cancer patients.

It has already been approved by the Health Ministry and is set to be built at the hospital's Abdulla Khalil Kanoo Paediatric Oncology Unit.

The Education Ministry is also looking into the provision of qualified teachers to tutor and care for the children.

Society chairman Isa Fulath said the facility would benefit children with more serious conditions, who the society has so far been unable to reach. - TradeArabia News Service
