Eye tests chance for shoppers
Dubai, September 26, 2007
Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai (MEHD) will host a stand at Mall of the Emirates daily from September 27 to 30, to offer complimentary self-administered eye tests to shoppers.
With the help of volunteers, participants will be able to check their distance acuity, near acuity, colour vision, and 3D vision, and will be provided with a referral to Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai in Dubai Healthcare City for further examinations if needed.
MEHD’s CEO and medical director, Dr. Chris Canning, said: “Periodic eye examinations are an important part of routine preventive health care. Many eye and vision conditions have limited symptoms, and individuals are often unaware of existing problems.
“Early diagnosis and treatment are important for maintaining good vision and, when possible, preventing permanent vision loss.
“Our Ramadan campaign is part of Moorfields’ on-going commitment to raise health care standards across the Emirates in line with the Ministry of Health’s vision, and to increase the awareness of the importance of regular eye examinations, ideally every two years.”
The Moorfields Ramadan Kiosk will be located outside Harvey Nichols in Mall of the Emirates, and will be open during the Mall’s opening hours.
Moorfields Eye Hospital Dubai (MEHD) is the first overseas branch of Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, the oldest and one of the largest centres for ophthalmic treatment, teaching and research in the world.
Located at the Al Razi Medical Complex in Dubai Health Care City, the facility provides daycase surgery and outpatient diagnostic and treatment services, including emergency care, for a variety of surgical and non-surgical eye conditions.
MEHD will also raise standards for research and teaching in the region through its partnership with the Harvard Medical School Dubai Center.
MEHD is owned and managed by the NHS Foundation Trust, and maintains close links with London, including a telelink with sophisticated videoconferencing technology, to ensure that patients in the GCC receive the best eye care treatment in the world.
