Dubai launches new low-income housing policy

DUBAI, March 14, 2017

Dubai government has approved a new housing policy aimed at providing residential units for low-income earners in the emirate besides renovating some old areas in the city, said a report.

The policy will classify low-income residents into Emiratis and non-Emiratis, in strategic sectors in Dubai, reported Gulf News.

The policy will also cover families’ income levels, place of residence, and public benefits and will compare them with the requirements at the time and the extent of challenges families are facing.

The new low-income housing policy was approved by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and chairman of Dubai Executive Council, at a recent meeting.

Sheikh Hamdan also reviewed possible ways of providing suitable accommodations for low-income families based on standard comparisons and results of surveys, which included two main programmes, said the report.

The first one aims to co-operate with real estate developers in order to provide housing units for low-income families while the second aims to refurbish some old areas in Dubai, it added.
