UK engineer Amey secures key Qatar registration

DOHA, June 5, 2016

Leading British engineering and public services provider Amey said its consulting team has achieved a major milestone in the region by securing a Grade A Civil Engineering Registration in Qatar.

With this move, Amey's team can now tender for a wide array of projects in Qatar that would not normally be open to international firms, said a statement from the company.

Completing the registration has taken over a year and has involved establishing a permanent business in Qatar, undergoing written exams and submitting a case to the Engineering Committee at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME).

Steven Yule, the international business development manager, at Amey said: "Obtaining Engineering Registration has been one of the more significant challenges during my four years working for Amey in Qatar."

It is a feat that cements the company’s commitment to growing its business in Qatar and further strengthens Amey’s reputation for delivering world-class highway management services, he stated.

"Through the professional commitment and support of our dedicated engineers, and through the wider support of our colleagues in the UK, we have achieved a major milestone for Amey’s committed presence in Qatar," added Yule.

Richard Allen, the business director in Qatar for Amey, said: "Achieving engineering registration in Qatar supports our international growth aspirations, and further demonstrates our commitment to the local and regional market."

A leading UK public and regulated services provider with over 21,000 employees, Amey has had a presence in Qatar since 2012.

The company has been providing a comprehensive range of professional services to the country’s highways authority, Ashghal, as well as providing asset management advisory services to a number of work streams for Kahramaa, the state owned utilities provider.

Amey is owned by Ferrovial, one of the world’s leading infrastructure management and investment companies. It operates over 320 contracts, providing a range of services including utilities, highways, waste management, rail, justice solutions, social housing and facilities management.-TradeArabia News Service
