Construction labour wages up 17.4pc in Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, August 18, 2015

The average wages of construction labour in Abu Dhabi increased 17.4 per cent in July 2015 compared with the same month last year, official data said.

The wages grew 7.8 per cent in July 2015 over June, according to data released by the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD).

The wage increases ranged between 6.7 per cent and 13.6 per cent, it said in its monthly report on the prices of building materials and construction costs. The report provides price data for 21 groups of key building materials.

It reported a price increase of 0.2 per cent for wires for small buildings, while PVC (polyvinyl chloride) pipes price fell by 2.1 per cent and that of uPVC (unplasticised polyvinyl chloride) by 4.3 per cent.

The average prices of false ceilings increased by 6.7 per cent in July 2015 compared with June 2015; while waterproofing products advanced 3.7 per cent.

The average prices of power cables declined 3.4 per cent and steel prices also fell 3.1 per cent.
