Masdar launches heat safety awareness drive

Abu Dhabi, June 29, 2014

The construction workers employed on projects within Masdar City, including the new headquarters for the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), were given advice and training on how to avoid heat related health problems during summer.

The heat safety awareness campaign, which included advice on how to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion, or heat stroke, and the importance of staying well hydrated, was conducted by the Masdar City Health, Safety Department and Abu Dhabi Municipality and Mubadala Construction Management Services, said a statement.

Mohammed Al Ramahi, chief operating officer, Masdar, said: “Masdar follows the highest standards not only with sustainable construction and design, but also safety. It is important to train workers on practices that will help them avoid heat related problems, and create a safer workplace.”

Masdar has issued safety bulletins to project contractors that outline mandatory requirements, such as providing rehydration fluids and supplements to workers before they arrive on site to reduce their risk of heat stroke and heat exhaustion, said the statement.

The safety bulletins also communicate the standards contractors should implement to prevent heat stress on work sites, it said.

The posters highlighting the dangers of heat related health problems and how to prevent them have also been distributed across various projects within Masdar City, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
