Focus on public/private investment in farm sector

DUBAI, January 5, 2016

The different goals of agriculture investments in the private sector versus the public sector and how a more co-ordinated effort between the two can reap greater efficacy and opportunities for all will be discussed at an upcoming conference in Dubai, UAE.

The Global AgInvesting (GAI) Middle East conference will run from February 29 to March 2 at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers.

Nicole Rogers, a GAI advisory board member and chief executive officer of Agriprocity - based in Dubai, said: “In the private sector, there is interest in collaborative and internationally- focused investments both up and downstream, while in the public sector, the focus remains on investments that promote food security strategies and policy, largely with a narrower domestic focus.

A focus on creating better public/private partnership models when investing within the agriculture sector will inevitably breed greater innovation within the space.

“We see these projects as key in the future for Middle Eastern market based agri-food investments,” she said.

Rogers is joined by other esteemed advisory board members, including Tarek El Sherbini of the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development (EBRD), and Mehmet Mumcuoglu of the International Finance Corporation, in guiding the vision for GAI Middle East.

The vision features a 2016 agenda that is jam-packed with new or updated panels, presentations and interactive workshops, including Investment Opportunities in the GCC Agri-Food Sector; Agriculture Investment Opportunities in India & Pakistan; Investing in Food Security by Addressing Key Challenges in the Supply Chain; Optimization of Agriculture Investments in Challenging Environments – Opportunities in Innovation; and Ag as a Sharia Compliant Investment.

More than 50 international thought leaders will speak at GAI Middle East 2016 and continue these discussions and present strategies for diversified agriculture portfolios, such as regional variation and opportunities in dairy, livestock and value-added food products. - TradeArabia News Service
