Doha airport prepares for Eid, Haj season

Doha, October 10, 2013

Doha International Airport (DIA) has made preparations for smooth passenger and traffic flow ahead of the Eid and Haj season, in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Civil Aviation Authority.

The ground floor of the arrivals terminal double-storey parking facility that was being constructed will be opened to provide 210 additional parking spaces. Authorities are confident that it will address the traffic congestion experienced during the recent holiday period, said a statement.

Abdulaziz Al-Mass, manager of public relations and communications, said: “The Eid and Haj season will once again see increased passenger traffic at DIA and we anticipate over 1 million passengers during October. In cooperation with our partners at MOI, CAA and Muwasalat, we have taken a number of measures to ensure a more convenient and hassle-free travel experience.

“The public should nevertheless make certain allowances to arrive early and to anticipate increased traffic in terms of people and vehicles as it will no doubt be a very busy period”.

Eight autopay parking payment machines have also been erected around the parking area and inside the arrivals terminal, which is aimed at minimising long queues at the car park exit.

The immigration clearance at the arrivals terminal will have 30 counters to receive passengers from all destinations, in addition to 10 e-gates operational for a quick and easy passport control procedure.

The departures terminal will be equipped with 32 passport clearance counters, in addition to the already existing e-gates.

Qatari Nationals and residents are eligible to activate e-gate services through the widespread ‘Metrash 2’ mobile app or through the immigration office located at DIA departures terminal, or any other government services complex in Qatar.

Muwasalat is set to provide an additional fleet of 200 Karwa Taxis specifically for the airport and a new taxi shelter and organised queuing has also been set up to further ensure a smoother flow. - TradeArabia News Service
