Bahrain-Amman air passenger figures up 216pc

Manama, May 29, 2013

Gulf Air and Royal Jordanian announced that the number of passengers transported by Gulf Air between Bahrain and Amman surged by 216 per cent after a year of signing a codeshare partnership between the two national carriers.

According to the agreement, flights between Jordan and Bahrain are operated by Gulf Air but marketed by both carriers. Royal Jordanian’s relationship with Gulf Air dates back to 2004 – when the two carriers signed the first codeshare partnership – later modified in 2012.

Gulf Air Acting chief commercial officer Ahmed Janahi said: “The success of the codeshare partnership with Royal Jordanian reaffirms the efficient working relationship between both airlines.

“Under the codeshare agreement, Gulf Air passengers now have better connections to travel to Amman and connect to 34 countries offered by Royal Jordanian via Amman, while Royal Jordanian passengers have seamless travel with a range of convenient flights to travel to Bahrain and 21 countries with Gulf Air.”

Royal Jordanian acting vice president Commercial Basma Majali said: “Being a marketing partner to Gulf Air flights between Amman and Manama, we are glad to see this surge in passenger demand.”

“We will build on the success that the codeshare agreement saw last year, and we will continue to enhance it in the interests of the two companies and their customers, particularly as Bahrain is a key market for us connecting Jordan with the Arabian Gulf, Indian Subcontinent and Asia. This success is thus a testament to the strength and importance of the close ties that exist between the two countries,” he added.

Gulf Air transferred all its departing and arriving flights to Amman in Jordan to the new terminal at Amman’s Queen Alia International Airport effective in March this year. The airline maintains a strong presence in Jordan; Gulf Air first started flying to the country in 1976 and today operates double daily flights between Bahrain and Amman.

Gulf Air is positioned to connect Amman to several key destinations in the region with 14 weekly flights and excellent connectivity via Bahrain to key destinations such as Dubai, Bangkok, and Mumbai.
