Abu Dhabi announces big WTM plans

A slew of new luxury hotels, resorts, power attractions and major events will hallmark this year’s Abu Dhabi promotion at the upcoming World Travel Market, a leading global event for the travel industry, to be held in London.

In Abu Dhabi’s WTM line up is the luxurious, five-star St. Regis Abu Dhabi, which is due to open by the end of this year and will feature the world’s highest suspended Presidential suite.

The hotel is in the heart of Abu Dhabi city on its vibrant Corniche with captivating Arabian Gulf views. The St. Regis Abu Dhabi, owned by International Capital Trading (ICT), will be part of Nation Towers, a two-tower mixed-use development.

The hotel’s presidential, first-of-its-kind ‘Abu Dhabi Suite’ will be suspended 200 metres above ground and have a private entrance, dedicated spa and movie theatre.

Upon entering the suite’s grand drawing room, guests will be greeted by a dramatic and captivating atmosphere with cascading strands of crystals, 24-karat gold leaf accents, leather wall tiles, velvet upholstered walls in jewel-toned hues and intricate glass mosaic patterns.

A grand staircase will lead up to the spacious Master Suite in the upper wing. Boasting a private entrance with elevator, the Master Suite will include an en-suite bathroom, library, lounge, entertainment and dining area complete with art deco inspired furniture and crystal chandeliers.

The St Regis Abu Dhabi will also offer more than 4,800 sq m of meeting and event space and over 3,000 sq m of ultra-modern health club facilities, including a signature spa and outdoor swimming pool, as well as Abu Dhabi’s first Hommage Grooming Atelier.

Guests will also enjoy private access to the hotel’s Nation Riviera Beach Club, expected to become one of the most sought-after destinations in the UAE capital.

Abu Dhabi National Hotels, one of the UAE’s leading hospitality groups, will be out in force promoting 17 of its properties throughout the Emirates, including the recently-opened Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi which is in a stunning setting on Saadiyat Island’s fabulous Saadiyat Beach.

Also in the ADNH delegation will be the Hilton Abu Dhabi, which is launching two new room packages at the show. These include the Hilton Abu Dhabi Wellness Package which includes a one-night stay, a 30-minute massage at its Hiltonia Spa, an in-room juice bar, yoga, pilates or a health activity of the guest’s choice at the Hiltonia Spa, a healthy meal at its La Terazza Restaurant and a late check out.

Rates start from Dh750 ($240) per person per night. The offer is subject to availability and to 10 per cent service charge and 6 per cent tourism fee.

Also for 2013, the hotel has designed the Hilton Abu Dhabi Family Package which gives families a 20 per cent discount off the best available bed and breakfast rate with children under 12 years eating, staying and playing for free.

The package includes a complimentary late check-out until 4pm, a complimentary shuttle to the nearby Marina Mall and access to the Hiltonia Beach Club with its 350 metre private beach, chilled swimming pools, water slides and watersports activities.

A major pavilion draw is expected to be Aldar Properties’ booth where the company promoting its second major power attraction – the soon-to-open Yas Waterworld, which has no less than 43 rides and attractions, including the Liwa Loop, the only looping waterslide in the Arabian Gulf.

The park is off to a great start having recently won the World Waterpark Association’s inaugural Leading Edge Award.

Another of Aldar’s mainline Yas Island attractions Ferrari World Abu Dhabi – the world’s biggest indoor theme park – will be promoting its latest visitor draw - theatrical spectacle ‘RED.’

“This is a performance representing speed and passion – a compelling new live show that celebrates the spirit of racing and the glamour of 1960s Italy through a 25-minute spectacle that brings the artistry of live theatre together with breath-taking projections, illusions, choreographed performances, acrobatics and on-stage stunts,” explained Bruno Wiley, sales director, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi.

Also in the promotional spotlight will be January’s PGA European-Tour-backed Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship which will be contended by some of the giants of the game including Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods.

They will head an all-star cast which will contest for the Falcon Trophy, and a share of the $2.7 million prize purse at the championship running from January 17 to 20 at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Emirates Palace – one of the world’s most opulent hotels – will be spreading news about its upcoming inaugural Coutts Polo event with a new ‘Palace Rules’ concept, designed by the world’s best players to enhance the spectator experience.

Taking place from November 23-24, the event, which is expected to become an annual fixture on the international polo circuit, means guests will watch team Abu Dhabi sponsored by Coutts, team London, team Milan sponsored by Maserati and team Buenos Aires compete for the Coutts Polo Cup on a custom-built field.

This will be an exclusive, high-end affair with entry limited to 1,000 people per day to ensure all guests get an up-close view. Hospitality tickets, starting from Dh1,750 per person per day, offer full catering throughout the day with access to either the shared VIP Hospitality, which is limited to 250 people, or one of five Private Chalets catering for up to 50 people.

Abu Dhabi headquartered Rotana Hotels, which operates 11 properties in the UAE capital, will also be highlighting its recently-opened Centro Capital Centre - a modern, stylish and affordable lifestyle business hotel close to Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre and only 20 minutes from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Cristal Hotels & Resorts will also be in the Abu Dhabi pavilion promoting the two, four-star properties it operates in the UAE capital, including the Cristal Salam – the city’s only non-smoking hotel.

Abu Dhabi tour operators Kurban Tours & Travel, Al Masaood Travel, the Emirati-owned specialist Tent Tours, DMC The Vision Destination Management and Big Bus Tours LLC are in the WTM line-up which also features a slew of new, or soon-to-open hotels and resorts.-TradeArabia News Service
