Top Libya refinery shut as feedstock runs dry

Tripoli, August 31, 2013

Libya's largest refinery at Ras Lanuf has shut after its crude oil stocks ran out as oilfields remained mostly shut down, trading and shipping sources said.

The 220,000 barrel per day refinery was closed due to strike action at the end of July but then re-opened around mid-August and resumed some shipments of kerosene, used for jet fuel, until early last week.

Arabian Gulf Oil Co, which produces the crude that the refinery uses for feedstock, has severely curtailed output due mainly to the closure of its export terminal.-Reuters
