Libya ministry backs major energy event

Tripoli, February 4, 2013

Libya’s Ministry of Oil & Gas has announced its support for the country’s leading event for the petroleum industry, a combined exhibition and conference, which will address Libya's oil, gas and petrochemicals sector.

The fifth edition of Oil & Gas Libya is set to take place from April 22 to 25 at the Tripoli International Fairground.

The event will be held as a new wave of optimism sweeps through Libya following the establishment of a democratically elected new government at the beginning of November 2012.

The new General National Congress (GNC) has the power to implement strategic plans for Libya's economic future and to release budgets for public sector spending to modernise the country's oil and gas sectors.

The new Ministry of Oil & Gas announced in October 2012 that Libya had already restored production to pre-revolution levels of 1.6 million barrels per day.

The challenge will be to maintain production at this level and increase it both through the introduction of enhanced oil recovery techniques (EOR) and by bringing on stream the development projects which stalled during the revolution.

Libya will also be looking to upgrade all its major refineries and, longer term, set up new downstream facilities. All this will open up multi-billion dollar opportunities for the international export community.

Oil & Gas Libya 2013 offers participating companies a means of reaching this market to consolidate their existing position in it or to establish a foothold on which to build in the future. The event provides participants with a number of means of achieving this, including a stand in the exhibition, sponsorship and taking part in the conference as a speaker or delegate.

The Conference Programme which will be announced in early February is likely to address the following principal topics such as exploration, new field development and the maintenance of existing fields, drilling and downhole technology, reservoir management and engineering, production technology, enhanced oil recovery, LNG, pipeline technology and refinery development and upgrading.

The 2012 edition of Oil & Gas Libya, and its co-located exhibition Infrastructure Libya, attracted over 4,500 industry visitors to an event which featured 197 international exhibitors from 24 countries including national pavilions from Egypt, France, Netherlands and Turkey.

Ninety-two per cent of exhibitors achieved their participation objectives and are looking to return to Oil & Gas Libya 2013. – TradeArabia News Service
