Siemens signs $450m service deals with Dewa

Dubai, October 17, 2012

Siemens Energy Service has signed long-term service contracts with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (Dewa) for its newest power station in operation, the Jebel Ali M-Station.

The facility is a 2,000 megawatt (MW) combined-cycle power plant and a 140 MIGD (million imperial gallons per day) desalination plant.

The power station began commercial operation in 2012 with a power generation capacity to supply approximately one million households in Dubai with clean power generated by highly efficient gas turbines.

With a secured combined order value of approximately $450 million, the 12-year service and parts contracts represent one of Siemens' largest service agreements in the region.

The agreement includes the option for an extension of the service period.

Under the Long-Term Program (LTP), Siemens Energy will provide comprehensive maintenance services for the six Siemens SGT5-4000F turbines and six SGen5-1000A series generators, which are installed in the plant. The long-term maintenance contracts are intended to enhance overall plant reliability and provide additional technical and financial benefits to Dewa, including more predictable maintenance costs and extended warranty coverage, as well as the supply of original equipment manufacturer (OEM) spare parts and professional outage management.

“We are pleased to announce this contract with Dewa, one of our most important customers in the Middle East. Dewa is committed to operating its plants with the highest efficiency and lowest operating costs, and we are honored they chose Siemens as their partner for this long-term service agreement, which is aligned to meet their high standards for plant operations,” said Randy Zwirn, CEO of the Energy Service Division within the Energy Sector. “The Middle East is a region of high importance for Siemens Energy and a prime market that helps us sustain strong growth in our global Service business.”

Siemens’ service product portfolio is based on flexibility, allowing plant owners to choose the level of complexity to match their specific needs. A tiered range of services is designed to help customers optimize availability during the lifecycle of the plant equipment.

Siemens Energy Service’s regional presence, with its Middle East headquarters located in Dubai, allows for close proximity to key customers in the region such as Dewa. Siemens and Dewa have developed a longstanding business relationship for over 30 years. The company has worked with Dewa as an EPC contractor, a supplier of highly efficient power generation components, and a provider of reliable long-term service and maintenance. This agreement follows one signed in 2008 for Siemens to provide long-term service at Dewa’s Jebel Ali L2 power plant.

The Siemens Energy Sector is the world’s leading supplier of a complete spectrum of products, services and solutions for power generation in thermal power plants and using renewables, power transmission in grids and for the extraction, processing and transport of oil and gas. - TradeArabia News Service
