Bahrain sounds alarm over terrorist weapons

Bahrain has sounded the alarm over terrorists' use of weapons, including firearms, against police, as the Cabinet voiced deep concerns over the dangerous development as it convened for its weekly meeting at Gudaibiya Palace.

Chaired by HRH Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, it described the use of weapons against policemen as alien to the peace-loving Bahraini society, our sister newspaper, the Gulf Daily News reported.

"The government will not keep silent on plots to subvert security and stability," ministers said, strongly condemning recent terror acts.

The Cabinet vowed to counter any attempt to drive the country into an infernal cycle of violence.

It denounced calls to cripple the economy and disrupt citizens' life by stepping up violence, blocking roads and targeting security forces. It also urged all parties to condemn such acts.

It stressed the detrimental effect of demagogic sermons and instigating children into taking part in protests. It linked the recent spate of troubles to the increased levels of rhetoric aimed at inciting violence.

The Cabinet also condemned the exploitation of children and described it as an affront to all religions and ethical values.

"Sabotage and incitement belie any commitment to engage in a serious dialogue and resolve to reach a joint consensus," the session said, paying tribute to the loyal Bahraini people for standing united to foil attempts to destablise Bahrain.

The Cabinet hailed the efforts of security forces to maintain order.

Public Security chief Major-General Tariq Al Hassan will soon reveal details of a terror cell announced by Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Interior Ministry said. – TradeArabia News Service
