Coca-Cola extends million meals partnership

Beirut, October 7, 2012

The Coca-Cola Company said it has joined forces with the Regional Egyptian Food Banks to extend the '1 Million Meals Partnership' scheme launched during Ramadan to support “The Village Free from Hunger” program in Lebanon and Jordan.

Following its successful Ramadan campaign, the duo has embarked on an extended initiative "to continue sharing joy through meals and beverages that are distributed to underprivileged families."

Within the partnership with the Lebanese Food Bank chaired by Kamal Sinno and the Jordanian Food bank chaired by Kawther Qattarneh, Coca-Cola Middle East confirmed plans to be the first to join the sustainable feeding program "Village Free From Hunger" sponsoring the distribution of dry food boxes during the upcoming months to underprivileged villages across Jordan.

The key areas to be covered include Rweam Tafelah Governorate, Abu Elalaq in Maan Governorate, Om Elamad in Balqa Governorate, and Mandah in Irbid Governorate.

The continuation of the project is a result of the successful partnership that saw the distribution of meals to the needy during Ramadan, said a statement from Coca Cola.

Lauding the initiative, Minister of Social Affairs in Lebanon Wael Abou Faour said, “What concerns me of this initiative is the will of doing good towards the community, which is met in the two institutions: The Regional Egyptian Food Bank (representing the Lebanese, Jordanian and Iraqi Food Banks) and Coca-Cola. Filling the needs of the underprivileged is an act of respect of their dignity.”

Dr Moez El Shohdi, the co-founder & CEO of the Regional Egyptian Food Bank said,"This year's feeding program is the first initiative of its kind in the region to support needy families during Ramadan. With the success of that partnership, we have now launched 'Village Free from Hunger' program that will continue to feed those below poverty level."

"Coca-Cola Middle East is the first multinational organization to support the program in both Lebanon and Jordan as a continuation of the successful Ramadan program launched with their support earlier this year," he added.

Antoine Tayyar, the director of communications and public affairs, Coca-Cola ME said, “We continue to honor our pledge to help the communities where we are present. We are glad to co-operate with the Food Bank again in Lebanon and Jordan for a program that aims to share meals and beverages with families and friends despite all circumstances and across all borders.”

Coca-Cola and its bottling partners will be providing cases of beverages in kind to accompany the food boxes, for families to remain hydrated and refreshed throughout the upcoming months, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
