Abu Dhabi gears up for big food show

Abu Dhabi, May 4, 2011

Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) is set to host the second edition of SIAL Middle East, the regional edition of one of the world's largest food industry exhibitions, from November 21 to 23.

The expo, to be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition center, will see more international participation and visitor footprint, said the ADFCA in a statement.

The first edition had seen the participation of 400 exhibitors representing international companies from 40 countries across the globe, it stated.

These included Turkey, France, China, Taiwan, Germany, India, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand, the US, Iran, Italy, Lebanon, Canada and Hong Kong.

"About 80 per cent of them were coming to the region for the first time," remarked Mohamed Jalal Al Reyaysa, chairman of the higher organizing committee for SIAL.

"These exhibitors went back convinced that Abu Dhabi was their best gateway to the large consumer base in the Mena region and South and East Asia," Al Reyaysa noted.

Business deals worth $250 million were inked during the first edition of the exhibition, marking a significant leap for the food industry in the region, he added.

According to him, the first edition had attracted well over 7000 visitors. "Around 30 per cent came from abroad, representing different segments of businessmen, industrialists and professionals," he pointed out.

Al Reyaysa said the tremendous success of SIAL's debut show convinced the ADFCA to host it a second time.

"The second edition of the event will turn out to be even larger in terms of participation, exhibition area and the number of visitors. We are planning an attractive boucquet of events and exhibits which are chosen meticulously and tailor-made for the consumers in the region," he added.

The expo is being held under the patronage of Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs and chairman of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.-TradeArabia News Service
