Thuraya, SRT team up for turbo module

Dubai, November 19, 2013

Thuraya, a Dubai-based mobile satellite services operator, has joined hands with SRT Wireless, the commercial and law-enforcement division of the SRT Group, to launch the new VIPturbo Module.

Developed by SRT Wireless, the VIPturbo Module can serve as the engine for new broadband terminals for the Thuraya satellite network, said a statement from the company.

Manufacturers can now integrate the VIPturbo Module into new satellite terminals to reduce R&D timelines and manufacturing costs. The module is currently being used to develop terminals for the maritime, land mobile and aeronautical markets, the statement added.

The VIPturbo Module supports circuit switched voice, fax and GmPRS, in addition to supporting standard IP with speeds up to 444 kbps and streaming IP with speeds up to 384 kbps.

Commenting on the new module, Randy Roberts, the VP of Innovation (Thuraya) said: “The SRT partnership demonstrates our commitment to collaborating with the industry’s top developers to innovate the product development process. The VIPturbo Module enables our product developers to considerably shorten their product development process to produce high quality terminals at a lower cost.

"This will result in end-users having a wider variety of terminals to address their vertical sector needs," he added.

John R. Russell, the chief operating officer, SRT Wireless, expressed delight at working with Thuraya to develop a module that provides a cost-effective solution for terminal manufacturers.

"The VIPturbo Module has been Network Certified by Thuraya and is designed for easy integration and packaging into application-specific terminals," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
