IGN Convention to debut in Bahrain

Manama, October 1, 2013

Comic, cosplay contests, gaming competitions and exhibitions led by professional gamers will be part of the IGN Convention, a leading comics festival, set to take place for the first time in Bahrain next month.

The IGN Convention is scheduled for October 18 and 19 at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIECC), reported the Gulf Daily News, our sister publication.

It is being organised by IGN in co-operation with Bahrain-based Tarteeb Events and Conferences, and will run from noon until 10pm on both days.

Special appearances will be made by American wrestler and actor Kevin Nash, and Keiji Inafune, who developed vintage games like MegaMan.

"There is a whole list of celebrities that we are trying to bring to Bahrain but two that we are very excited to announce are Kevin Nash and the producer of the MegaMan video games," said IGN convention organising president Omar Abdulaziz.

"It took a lot of convincing to get IGN to come to Bahrain and the success of this project falls on all those in the country and surrounding countries. I am sure this will be a great event, but it is a pilot event that will determine if it will become an annual thing. If it works then you will see it even bigger and better next year."

Sony has agreed to provide five PS4s with unreleased games at the convention, revealed Abdulaziz.

"There will be five PS4s and not just for show, people will be allowed to play on four of them," he said.

"The plan is to have four never before seen games in Bahrain, which is a given because the console has not been released. We are going all out for this convention and have invested tens of thousands of dinars into making this a success.

"There will be something for everyone as the convention is not all about games, although it will be a main theme. There will be comic art, cosplay competitions, gaming competitions, and we are even going to have special exhibitions held by professional gamers who will also share the secrets to their gaming styles,” he added.

Bahrain game developers will also be given a chance to showcase their creations, the report said. – TradeArabia News Service
