Sharjah to host major printing show

Sharjah, July 7, 2013

Sharjah is set to take centre stage in the fast-growing printing and packing industry, which is expected to touch $11 billion by 2015 in the region, with the hosting of a major event next April.

Aiming to give a push to the printing and packaging industry, Expo Centre Sharjah will join hands with the Indian Printing and Allied Machinery Manufacturers' Association (IPAMA) to launch Print Pack Arabia from April 7 to 10.

“We certainly want to make a big impact with the inaugural Print Pack Arabia. And, for this, we have joined hands with the leaders in this field - IPAMA, which organises Print Pack India, the fourth largest exhibition of its kind in the world and the biggest in India,” said Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, director general of Expo Centre Sharjah, announcing the tie-up.

The agreement was signed on July 7 in the presence of Midfa, K.S. Khurana, president-IPAMA; and C P Paul, general secretary-IPAMA.

The show will play a significant role in highlighting new technology that regional printing companies will have to acquire to achieve the quality and speed required while addressing growing demand for short runs, quick turnarounds and variable content.

“The printing industry is a state of continuous transition... both conventional and digital printing platforms have their pros and cons. While offset is most commonly used for high volume commercial printing, the growth of digital printing technology has brought technical advancements, more options, and exciting new features for today’s commercial printing,” said Midfa.

The packaging industry in the region too is on an upswing, with the sector in the UAE itself expected to be worth $2.3 billion by 2016 owing to increased consumption and demand for consumer goods, driving the need for more sophisticated packaging.

The UAE and the region are large consumers of ready-made food, which are supplied to consumers in packaging, stimulating demand for products like integrated graphics, structural design, packaging equipment and packaging materials and supplies.

“We are happy to associate with Expo Centre Sharjah to launch the Print Pack Arabia. IPAMA is dedicated to disseminating information on the state of the technology, market perspectives and various developments taking place around the world, besides holding Printpack India,” said Khurana. “Through Print Pack Arabia, we will be able to replicate the success achieved in India and share our decades of experience and expertise.”

In order to provide a comprehensive coverage, Print Pack Arabia 2014 will be held along with the international plastics exhibition and conference — 2nd Plastivision Arabia, which is held in association with the All India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association. - TradeArabia News Service
